Daniel Abt reaches for Formula 3 Crown
The GP3 Series, Formula Renault 3.5, the Formula 3 Cup and GP2 tests: Daniel Abt successfully had his finger in many pies this season. With a triumph at the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix next weekend (15–18 November) the GP3 runner-up could be crowning a fantastic season plus taking care of some unfinished business in the process.
“Macau is a career highlight for any racer. I’ve had the honour of competing there twice before. On my third run, I’d like to make up a few things I haven’t achieved yet,” says the driver from the Allgäu whose declared aim is “to triumph in Macau”. The 19-year-old contested the F3 classic in the past two years. He clinched his best result in 2010 when he immediately took a podium finish – third place – in the sprint race against the world’s best competitors in class. In the main race, he even had the lead for a short time but then retired after an accident. In 2011, a starting collision thwarted the chance for a good result. “Macau doesn’t forgive even the slightest mistake,” says the driver form Kempten, who is competing for the successful UK team Carlin.
